Queer Approaches to Corpus and Discourse Linguistics
- Course type: Seminar and Exercise
- Institution: Faculty of Humanities
- Funding period: 01.10.2024 bis 30.09.2025
- Short title: QuZuKoDiLi
Orientation of the project

The QuZuKoDiLi project aims to combine queer linguistics and digital humanities in both research and teaching. The courses will cover: (1) general digital and data skills (Data & Digital Literacy); (2) interdisciplinary methods, including data collection, processing, management, analysis, and presentation; and (3) subject-specific content and methods, focusing on queer, discourse, and corpus linguistics. Additionally, a concept for humanities courses in line with the DDLitLab/CDTL framework will be developed.

Project realisation

The project consists of a seminar with a corresponding exercise in the Master's program—scheduled for the winter semester 2024/2025 and the summer semester 2025.
In the seminar, content-related and methodological aspects of queer, discourse, and corpus linguistics are discussed in a research-oriented manner and subsequently put into practice in the exercise. One example is the question of how Christopher Street Day is reported in public: is it presented as a party or a demonstration? For this purpose, existing corpora (e.g., DeReKo, QLK) are analyzed quantitatively while simultaneously collecting, processing, and evaluating own data—this may also refer to critical discourse analyses and multimodal approaches. In addition to existing corpora, the following resources are utilized for data preparation, analysis, and presentation: D-WISE, CATMA, DeReKoVecs, DWDS word profile, and the Queer Network of the Day.
The parallel creation of a concept for humanities line with the CDTL framework involves developing a course framework (concept paper with a schedule, content structure, and modules for individual sessions) that can be adapted for all areas of linguistics, as well as creating teaching and learning materials within the context of digital humanities.
