Science on Stage at the Campus Festival 2023
At the University of Hamburg's Campus Festival on 21 June 2023, themed ‘Burgers, Beats & Bubbly,’ our student research groups also presented their entertaining contributions as part of the Science on Stage event.
The format was similar to a science slam, in which the presenter has a set amount of time to introduce their research to the audience and inspire them. The aim is to score points with the audience and be crowned the winner. The challenge is to present your research in such a way that even complete novices who have never come into contact with the topic before can follow the presentation. To achieve this, anything that fits on stage is allowed, from PowerPoint presentations to comedy, singing or dancing. The most important thing is that the audience learns something and is entertained at the same time.
The following groups performed this time:
- Hamburg Bit Bots: Intelligent robots;
- #IchBinArmutsbetroffen (I am affected by poverty) – Addressing one's own poverty in public;
- Cell relief and nanoparticle-modified surfaces as potential antibacterial coatings for medical implants;
- Self-perception of jurisprudence: The status quo and potential of practice-oriented subject didactics;
- Investigating the link between schistosomiasis and malnutrition in farming communities in rural Madagascar (nutriMad);
- Human-environment conflicts in the UNESCO Mount Elgon Biosphere Reserve;
- Phylogenetic family tree of organisational forms in the animal kingdom;
- Buddhism in contemporary society: a case of modern mindfulness;
- Learning barriers in text and video vignettes – a comparative analysis of different formats;
- Antibiotic resistance – transFERRITIN and
- Multimodal Learning – An app to improve human reading with active eye tracking
who explained their current projects to us in short, informative, often funny and exciting slams. Fresh popcorn and refreshing drinks were also provided.
We would like to thank the excellent presenters and all the audience members for participating and look forward to the next event!
