Intersectionality and its Impact on Epistemology and Education
In the transdisciplinary project „Intersectionality and its Impact on Epistemology and Education” students will examine the inherent hierarchy of science and academic life. Intersectionality describes as a concept the overlapping of forms of discrimination (e.g. racism and sexism), epistemology is the teaching of knowledge.
One result of this discipline is the information about epistemic injustice. The saying „Knowledge is Power“ is a well-known calendar motto which is actually true: Anyone who has access to academic knowledge often also has access to higher positions and better paid jobs. Our idea of objectivity is shaped by a norm: If we think of a philosopher for example, most people will have the same image in mind: A cis-male, heterosexual, white, elder person with academic eduction. This group of persons is attributed with the most competence and neutrality. However, the globalized world is more divers than that. So, how can science become more diverse and the access to knowledge more inklusive?
The objective of the project is the establisment of a best practice guides for a less discriminating speech in the German language area.
