As part of this year's UHH Sustainability Week, a special highlight took place on June 2, 2024: The Science Slam, funded by the DDLitLab as part of the CDTLs, attracted around 100 guests to the atmospheric Schrödinger Hamburg hall.
Six highly motivated slam participants each had ten minutes to present their research in an entertaining and exciting way - a format that makes science tangible for a wide audience. The individual contributions were developed together in previous supervised workshops.
The variety of topics impressively reflected the range of current sustainability research at the University of Hamburg:
- Elena Ebert and Svjetlana Zimmermann presented the topic “1000 days of Maternal and Child Health Care”.
- Marten Borchers posed the tongue-in-cheek question “Why we shouldn't surf in Hamburg?” and provided exciting insights.
- In his slam, Tobias Bauer examined the potential for competition between wild and honey bees in relation to food availability in northern Germany (Beenough project).
- Lucas Nesso's science slam was entitled “Meal time”.
- Julia Pargmann dealt with “Sustainability and digitalization in the classroom”.
- Dr. Daniel Thewes invited the audience to an interesting change of perspective with “Look at the sea”.
Presenter Insina Lüschen led the audience through the evening. After the presentations, the audience was asked to rate the presentations using scoreboards.
Tobias Bauer, who impressively presented his student project Beenough, which is funded by the DDLitLab, was ultimately crowned the winner. The science slam event was an all-round successful evening full of inspiration, wit and knowledge. It showed once again how lively and relevant scientific exchange can be - especially in the context of sustainability.
The DDLitLab would like to congratulate Tobias Bauer and the entire Beenough project for their commitment and their great presentation. We are also delighted with the success of the Science Slam as part of the CDTLs.
