The teaching lab project “Version control of code and data with Git and DataLad” by Dr Lennart Wittkuhn and Prof Dr Nicolas Schuck, which was funded in the second funding round of our teaching lab, has won the Teaching Award Psychology 2024 from the “Institute of Psychology” at the University of Hamburg. The course was nominated for the prize by students. As part of the award, a concept paper was created that describes the structure, content and teaching methods of the project. This paper can be found here.
We can all use version control! This is one of the central messages of the project “Version control of code and data with Git and DataLad” (“Git” for short). Against the background of the replication crisis, there is a great demand for methods to improve scientific practice. A central aim of the teaching project was to convey to course participants the importance of version control in a scientific context through the practical application of Git and the use of platforms such as GitHub. In addition, an open-source learning resource was developed to support the scientific use of Git. The teaching materials of the course were created on GitHub, which helps to promote reproducible science.
The DDLitLab congratulates Dr Lennart Wittkuhn on receiving the award. We are delighted with the lasting success of the teaching lab project and wish all those involved every success with their future projects!
