The year 2024 was characterised by significant developments and projects for the DDLitLab. This is a good opportunity to look back on a small selection of events from this year.
A central highlight was the ceremonial conclusion of the second round of funding for teaching lab projects at the end of the winter semester 23/24. In autumn, the teaching lab projects were then relaunched in the form of the new Cross-Disciplinary Teaching Labs (CDTLs), which are intended to contribute to the continuation and further development of existing teaching projects. We have been funding ten projects since October. We are also once again funding seven innovative student projects that take a critical and reflective approach to data.
Another important event in connection with the teaching labs was the launch of the teaching lab podcast, in which the fellows of the funded teaching projects report on their achievements in detailed interviews.
The Data Worlds lecture series has been in its fourth round since October - this time with two additional exercises on the introduction to the statistical software R.
In addition to these projects, we published ‘Chat GPT and Me 2.0’ in the summer, the second edition of our study on the use of generative AI at UHH. Generative AI is and remains a key topic for lecturers and students. Over the course of the year, we therefore organised three dates in our ‘AI Hands-On’ event series in cooperation with the HUL, where participants were able to discuss current challenges and developments in generative AI at the UHH. The next meeting is already scheduled for 15 January.
We would like to thank all our supporters, cooperation partners, fellows and students for a successful year 2024 and wish them happy holidays. We look forward to the upcoming and final DDLitLab year 2025!
