The fifth meeting of the ‘AI Hands-On’ event series took place on 8 October and focused on the topics of custom GPTs and prompting. After a brief welcome, the atmosphere was lightened by the participants discussing their plans for using generative AI in the coming semester.
The first expert input came from Prof Dr Nils Buchholtz from the Faculty of Education, who presented custom GPTs using the ‘LEAP’ platform from LMU Munich, which is used in mathematics didactics. Robert Geislinger from HCDS then provided a theoretical and technical categorisation of custom GPTs. This presentation led to a lively discussion about the practical feasibility of these technologies in teaching.
After a short break, during which the participants had the opportunity to network, they split into small groups to discuss three different topics. One group focussed on prompting and how effective prompts can improve the user experience with generative AI. The other groups focussed on the Academic Cloud and its role as a toolbox for data and AI applications as well as fobizz's AI tools for teachers.
Finally, Mareike Bartels reported on the recently published report ‘ChatGPT and Me 2.0’, which is available here. This report examines the attitudes and usage behaviour of students and lecturers at the University of Hamburg.
For those interested in learning more about generative AI in teaching, we recommend visiting the gAI topic page of the DDLitLab or registering for the mailing list of the gAI Community of Practice at the UHH.
