Use of AI-based Methods for the Development of Neuronal Biomarkers for the Prediction of Freezing of Gait in Parkinson Patients
Gait disorders and especially Freezing of Gait (FoG) is a symptome in the Idiopathic Parkinson Syndrom (IPS) which is difficult to treat, which is marked by loss in mobility and thus influences the quality of life. The well-established treatment option for IPS of Deep Brain Stimmulation (DBS) now also offers the possibility to record electric, synaptically generated potentials of groups of nerve cells in the form of „Local Field Potentials“ (LFP) in implanted patients. We combine this new way of collecting data with the newest methods of Artificial Intelligence in order to get insights in mechanisms of FoG we have not been able to understand so far in IPS and to gain possible biomarkers for the development of a gait based Closed-Loop DBS.
