GAIA-endo 2021: Gastrointestinal augmented reality assistance systems for endoscopy
Diseases that involve an inflammation of the esophagus and intestine are widespread. If the chronical inflammation turns into a tumor it is life-threatening for the patients. Recognizing these critical cases and the areas involved is the task of endoscopy. Methods of machine learning or Artificial Intelligence (AI assistence systems) are able “to look over the shoulder” of the examiner and to mark the suspicious areas live in the video picture (augmented reality). GAIA-endo 2021 is supposed to establish a data basis for the training of the underlying algorithms.
As an interdisciplinary student work group, we have the opportunity to keep an eye on technical as well as medical questions and data validity.
