In the Data in Dialogue event series, economists and social scientists present their data-driven working environment and talk about their personal career path to their current profession.
After employees from the IfaD Institute, Techniker Krankenkasse and OTTO had already provided insights into their data-driven professional fields, five representatives from the Hamburg-based company Statista were guests at the final event in the series on 26 January 2024. As a global database, the company bundles statistical data, for example from research institutions or official statistics, and makes it accessible to its users.
Four speakers presented their areas of responsibility and their individual skillsets in more detail:
- Ben Impey, Editorial Researcher
- Molly Connell, Business Analyst
- Joline Franken, Product Manager
- Nikola Danjus, People Manager
The guiding theme ‘Empowering People with Data’ ran like a red thread through the presentations.
And: as diverse as the possible areas of activity are, so too are the interdisciplinary backgrounds of the employees. What all the presenters had in common, however, was their work with data in different areas of application.
And what is the most important thing in the various jobs? Exactly: a basic understanding of data and numbers, paired with critical thinking and target-oriented communication. Once again, this shows that data literacy can be very relevant for professional life.
We would like to thank all the speakers once again for their commitment and the informative and authentic presentations!
