The TURN Conference 2023, which took place for the second time at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, served as a platform for developing easily adaptable and modern educational content and teaching concepts. Participants were able to submit their ideas and studies at various stages, from the first draft to publication-ready contributions.
Two contributions from the DDLitLab teaching lab projects were presented: The Digital Propaedeutic in the Humanities was entitled ‘Digipop - an online platform with knowledge modules on digital working methods for the humanities’ and dealt with a platform that teaches digital tools and application scenarios to humanities subjects and focuses on specific media formats. This acts as a place for interdisciplinary exchange and the publication of workpieces, with content being kept up to date as ‘living documents’.
The second contribution from the Data-Driven Digital Innovation Lab teaching lab project was entitled ‘Data-driven Digital Innovation Lab: Designing an interdisciplinary lab event’ and focused on a teaching concept that promotes the data skills of participants from all disciplines as part of guided, practical data-driven projects.
After short pitches on the contributions, these were further developed in creative workshops with qualified feedback from experienced teaching staff. The conference also offered an opportunity to familiarise oneself with innovative teaching approaches from different areas of education and to gather new ideas. There were a number of parallel events during the conference. For example, further contributions from the areas of ‘Learning through Play’ with a focus on ‘Serious Gaming’ and ‘Data Literacy - Science and Data’, which focussed on teaching skills for scientific work.
The TURN Conference 2023 has proven to be a valuable platform where educators can come together to share innovative ideas and concepts. The breadth and quality of the papers presented was testament to the dynamism and commitment of the education community. Our participation was not only enriching in terms of expertise, but also opened up new perspectives and provided valuable networking opportunities.
We look forward with great interest to the next edition of the TURN Conference in Berlin in 2024.
