The DDLitLab and HUL hosted the third hands-on workshop on 13 February, which brought together almost 40 people from various disciplines to discuss how courses on generative AI (gAI) can be designed.
Stephan Leible and Constantin von Brackel-Schmidt gave an initial input by presenting their seminar ‘Future fields of digitalisation: data-driven digital innovations and gAI’ using a template developed by HUL to structure and design curriculum planning.
In the following small group phase, initial ideas for courses on the topic of generative AI as well as general thoughts were collected and discussed in plenary. The discussion that developed from the contributions of the small groups focussed on the role of generative AI in teaching. It centred on questions such as: Does the excessive use of gAI lead to a loss of skills among students? Is there a need for interdisciplinary basic training on the subject for students from all disciplines? The question of how AI literacy can be defined in a university context was also raised for future events.
The DDLitLab would like to thank all participants for the constructive discussion and wishes the lecturers every success in realising their ideas!
