Until 31 March 2024, the DDLitLab is once again funding a wide range of innovative data literacy education projects that develop and expand students' data skills from a specialist perspective, in the Studium Generale or in cooperation with a non-university partner.
The project lecturers and the DDLitLab team came together at VMP9 at the end of May to get to know each other and network for the first time. There, the DDLitLab staff first showed how they can support the lecturers: With administrative, technical and didactic advice or with software and technical expertise. The subsequent data literacy bingo got things moving. The aim was to find out who still uses an analogue diary, is always online in private mode or has ever used a disposable email. After the first one was able to shout not only ‘Bingo!’ but even ‘Super Bingo!’, everyone had probably come into contact with each other before.
After this relaxed introduction, the really relevant questions were addressed: each DLE project designed a poster presenting the planned course: Where is it located? What aspects of data literacy will be taught? What challenges do the organisers see? The project groups worked on their posters with great concentration, both in the room and outside in the beautiful sunshine.
These were then presented in one-minute pitches in a large, fast-paced round. Many common points of contact and challenges became clear: e.g. the practical use of Jupyter notebooks or the questions of how to reach the students well and how to deal with their different prior knowledge.
These and many other topics were then discussed in depth over coffee, sandwiches and fresh fruit. This will be followed up at the next teaching lab networking meeting. It will take place on Thursday 13 July at 5.30 pm in a café near the campus.
