The interdisciplinary lecture series ‘Data Worlds 1 - Introduction to Data Science’ started in the winter semester 2021/22. In order to reflect on the ethical, legal and social conditions and consequences of the data practices presented in the winter semester, the lecture series will now be completed with the ‘Reflection on Data Worlds’ in the summer semester 2022. This ties in with topics from the first part, but can also be attended independently.
In order to convey a critical and reflective approach to data and data-driven technologies, an interdisciplinary team from communication science (Dr Julia Niemann-Lenz and Prof. Dr Katharina Kleinen-von Königslöw), political science (Prof. Dr Ingrid Schneider), ethics in information technology (Prof. Dr Judith Simon) and law (Prof. Dr Wolfgang Schulz) will examine the conditions and consequences of datafication for society, politics, business and law.
Using various topics and problems, such as data journalism and political microtargeting, epistemological, scientific and ethical questions of data use or fundamental and human rights dimensions of data protection, students from all faculties will gain a basic understanding of the critical reflection of data use and application in various sub-areas.
This course also follows the inverted classroom principle: the lecture content is made available to students in video sequences on Lecture2Go and then discussed in greater depth online in live sessions.
